Dr. R. Hafeez Basha was responsible for the Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship related activities at the Osmania University, one of India’s most prestigious public state universities with a legacy spanning over a century. The Osmania Technology Business Incubator (OTBI) is an initiative of OU Idea Labs Foundation a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) registered as section 8 company with Vice Chancellor himself as its Managing Director. It was funded with Rs. 107+ crores by the Ministry of Education, Government of India under the scheme Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The University is also recognized as ‘Host Institute’ and OTBI as ‘Business Incubator’ by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
The OTBI is strategically located within the Central Facilities for Research and Development (CFRD) Building, where this state-of-the-art facility occupies the entire second floor boasting world-class infrastructure that spans over 20,000 sq. ft. It is equipped with more than 300 co-working work-stations, shared meeting rooms, seminar halls, and a range of amenities designed to nurture and accelerate startup growth through comprehensive Pre-Incubation, Incubation, and Acceleration Programs. During his stay as the Chief Executive Officer, he was instrumental in activating the Entrepreneurship Development Cells at the campus colleges and integrating them into Hub-and-Spoke Model.
Achievements:
- On-boarded 18+ start-ups from student & faculty ideas that led to various success stories
- One of the start-up ‘OsteoForge’ raised Rs. 12.75 lakhs through MSME Idea Hackathon 3.0 organized jointly with WE-Hub, Govt. of Telangana on 7th August 2023
- One of the start-up ‘Skill Monks’ received a Grant of Rs. 25 lakhs from Microsoft in SaaS domain
- Two start-ups ‘Souratron’ and ‘AadhaTrip’ got selected in Lift Off Program of Wadhwani Foundation
- Led the delegation to India Startup Festival 2023 during 10-12 August 2023 felicitated by Shri. J. A. Chowdary, Former Special Chief Secretary & IT Advisor to CM (Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State)
- Hack-Z conducted on 7th October 2023 attracted 350+ coders with Rs. 60,000/- cash prizes and internship opportunities by startup ‘Edwisely’
- Hosted Telangana Incubators and Accelerators Round Table Meet of Telangana State Innovation Cell (TSIC) at OTBI on 26th July 2022 and 28th December 2023
Activities:
- Coordinator for IPR Awareness Program by the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM), DPIIT
- Convener for Institute Innovation Council (IIC) and conducted Impact Lecture Series 1 & 2 respectively
- Conducted Entrepreneurship Skill Certification Course during 11-18 July 2022 and 11-17 February 2023
- Organized DST-NIDHI Prayas Awareness Program on with Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) of CSIR-CCMB on 14th July 2023
- Organized National Summit on Education 5.0 inaugurated by Shri. Navin Mittal IAS, Commissioner Collegiate & Technical Education, Government of Telangana on 17th December 2022
- Hosted Mr. Orhan Yalman Okan, Consulate General of Turkey in Hyderabad on 13th April 2023
- Hosted Gen. André M. Manda, Police Commissioner General, Republic of Congo, Africa on 28th July 2023
- Hosted Lt. Gen. P. K. Srivastava, Former Director General (Artillery), Indian Army on 13th August 2022
Dr. R. Hafeez Basha served as Chief Executive Officer for two years, during which time he played a pivotal role in steering the organization towards new heights. Following his successful tenure, he was elevated as an Advisor, allowing him to continue contributing his expertise and strategic insights. His successor, Dr. T. Harinarayana, Former Director General of the Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), Government of Gujarat, and Retired Scientist-G (Director Grade) from CSIR-NGRI i.e. Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, National Geophysical Research Institute under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India brought his extensive experience and leadership to the role, ensuring a seamless transition and continued excellence in the organization’s mission.
